This is a work in progress to compile as comprehensive as possible a listing numbers and titles of individual L.M. Melander & Brothers publishers stereographs of Arizona. Each listing will include a brief biographical overview, in addition to the checklist of stereoviews complied to date.

Based in Chicago, Illinois, Melander produced a series of regional views in the mid-1870s, including views of “New Mexico and the Great South West” and Fort Defiance in the

Arizona Territory in the mid-1880s. Label copy reads:

“Stereoscopic Views of New Mexico/and the Great Southwest/Published by L.M. Melander & Bro.,/208 E. Ohio Street, Chicago – Fort Defiance Series, Arizona (description on reverse)” and “Stereoscopic Views of New Mexico/and the Great Southwest/Published by L.M. Melander & Bro.,/208 E. Ohio Street, Chicago – Canyon De Chelle Series, Arizona (description on reverse).”

L. M. Melander consolidated with The Globe Photo Art Company in the mid- 1890s. The Fort Defiance and Canyon de Chelle series each included approximately a dozen stereographs c. 1890.

If you have additional information about the L.M. Melander & Brothers publishing company, examples of stereographs that are not on this list, or variant titles for any of the numbers or captions I would appreciate hearing from you. Ideally, I would like to obtain either a Xerox copy or scan for my files as well.
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Please feel free to use this information but please credit this source and reproduce only with full credit information.
Thank you.
